Follow up to my last post, compare:

Top US Singles of 1988

Top UK Singles of 1988

The former contains lots of pop fluff, standard rock and hair metal. The UK list, while not devoid of Whitney Houston and Phil Collins, has Theme from S'express [YouTube], Pet Shop Boys and the Timelords [YouTube], fer KLF's sake!

And these were just the number ones.

Is it any wonder I was a teenage anglophile?

  • 14:47 Idea of day: design your life. Don't let it happen by accident.
  • 18:44 I shouldn't be amazed that 2 people + 2 cats can generate THAT MUCH garbage.

  • 22:49 RT @dustdaughter: Can you LoudTwitter to more than one blog at a time? <--I have no idea.
  • 23:05 Courtesy @danphilpott: tinyurl.com/dl2sn3 I find this more amusing than it probably warrants.
  • 23:06 Just got finished laying on ice pack. Exercise is dandy but it's sitting that messes up my back.
  • 23:07 Not fencing Friday - need to do more laying on ice to prepare for 2 day competition Sat/Sun.
  • 10:35 Wish I could remove the keyboard "drawer" from my desk. Banging my knees on it.

What was a one time joke of singing "canned cat food" to the tune of Beethoven's 9th has become habit because Spice actually responds to it :P Never let it be said that the little furry ninjas don't value presentation....

Closet Couture, "designed to bring together the sartorially inclined".

In very early beta, but I'm on their waiting list. Hopefully will be useful/interesting, as I can't find a CostumeCon community on Facebook to save my life...
anotheranon: (jollyroger)
Just a reminder that Costume Con is in Ballmer next year - not much on the site yet, but early registration is already open. If you have any interest in costuming (even if you don't/can't make 'em yourself) I've gotta recommend it!

I'm planning to attend - anyone else?

Steven Moffat of "Coupling" fame to take over as Dr. Who lead writer. Found through both [livejournal.com profile] quasiestrophagy and [livejournal.com profile] ragdoll, the latter of whom wonders whether we'll get Richard "Crazy Jeff" Coyle as a Doctor, and/or spanking lesbian companions.

= Awesome :) Found in the acknowledgements at the end of "A Dirty Job".

[livejournal.com profile] hrj is blogging Kalamazoo, a nice taste for those who can't make it or have never been - here's the sort of lectures and discussions to be found there :)

I've been doing a lot of repetitive stuff at work and listening to audio dramas while I do it. Among the best are Metamor City (original) and Buffy Between the Lines (fan written; takes place between seasons 5 and 6).

I was going to post something more substantial, but I have to get up hellaciously early for a dental appointment tomorrow. So instead I give you all (but especially [livejournal.com profile] tommdroid) a link: Steampunk Dalek.

Sci fi burlesque. No, that does not translate to "David Tennant in a loincloth", though I notice that Dr. Who's scarf and Leia's metal bikini do make appearances (yes, it is mostly nekkid ladies).

Lexx, I guess, isn't well known enough. Or, just too obvious :P

Kristen Bell's geek-fu has just shot through the roof (YouTube) - not only is this film about Star Wars fans, one of the writers is the same Ernie Cline responsible for Nerd Porn Auteur (audio file).

Mind, I'm not sure how much you can transport through it - it is made of Legos, after all....

Courtesy [livejournal.com profile] dotheranon - where does he find all these wonderful toys?

By now everyone and their dog has heard the Hobbit news, but did anyone else catch Jennifer Saunders tipped as the next Dr. Who? It's champers and salmon nibbly things in space, sweetie!

I just wonder who her companion will be....

Found over at [livejournal.com profile] betnoir's: PushinDaisies a "novelty mortuary shop", home of the skeleton flamingos and the coffin cake pan among others;

Both from [livejournal.com profile] jlsjlsjls, who has a knack for finding these things: Cuddly Rigor Mortis - people, do I have to say anything else??

Sick on Sin, who makes the elegant Skull n' Scissors tee.

I KNOW where I'm going for all my holiday needs next year!
