heh.. steampunk is NOT dead as long as there are RPG geeks out there.

Steampunk was whole heartedly embraced by more than a few gamers I know, even to the point of holding Steampunk LARPs (costumes and all)

I love the style, though I've not dabbled in it myself. Did it originate in RPGs? Victorian style clothing is complicated even when it's not historically correct to the last thread so I can't imagine it started as everyday wear...
