I have enough new things for fall. Really.

But, I do like to look.

TopShop is calling this an "eyelet denim jacket", but let's be honest: this is a biker doublet. That's so cool, let's say it again: biker doublet.

I emphatically don't need a pair of black granny boots. I have a PVC pair I seldom wear, but I LOVE having a pair just in case because they cover the spectrum between stuffy and sexy, everyday and costume so well!

Heeled oxfords, suede and patent. Just the perfect combination of sensible sophistication and sleek style. Besides, very 1940s/Kate Hepburn. And, being Clarks, the heels on these might not even be that uncomfortable.

Had a big day out with [livejournal.com profile] dotheranon, for the much anticipated (by us, anyway) "Iron Man", followed by a late lunch.

The movie was THAT good :) Disclaimer: I've never read the comics, but D. assures me that Robert Downey Jr.'s "witty bastard" portrayl of Tony Stark was true to character - I found him wonderfully snarky throughout but he pulled off the change of heart without doing a total about-face of the character. Actually, the acting was pretty good all around - I even found Jeff "Lebowski" Bridges to be a pretty good villain, considering I've only ever seen him play good guys.

I loved the Iron Man armor - I especially like that they actually made the costumes and didn't rely on CGI throughout - made everything looked lived in and shot up, etc.

Some promo material seemed to really push the forging / sleeveless top scenes as something "for the ladies" and they aren't half bad, but I am alas spoiled by Hugh Jackman and cannot in good faith give Mr. Downey Jr. higher than a, say, 6.5 on the arm porn scale :P

Yes, we stayed for the end-of-credits spoiler. D. had to explain the significance to me :P

Late lunch/early dinner was at an outdoor cafe - it was really nice as I can't remember the last time I'd eaten outdoors or had Greek food (tzatziki sauce!!) The weather was in that perfect place between cold and clammy end of winter and humid and hellish high summer, which lasts only ~3 weeks around here so it was nice to catch (yay Claritin!) So yes, a fine day out :)

Complete nonsequitir: the same folks who do the "I like big books" shirt also do gothicy Christmas gear; Terry Pratchett fans will surely appreciate this one.

Inspired my my responses to my mineral makeup post and the ensuing discussion, I'm upgrading my beauty regimen a bit:

Recon to Sephora: I tried out some of the recommendations and satisfied myself that that "new!" really does mean improved, at least in some cases. On order: mineral foundation and primer, along with some sample sizes of the more expensive stuff (hat tip [livejournal.com profile] margoeve; you really CAN find everything on Ebay!)

I also decided to give Lush another try. I picked up 3 things but because I'm cautious of another bad reaction I've only tried one yet and am surprisingly impressed. The backside slayer* really does work as advertised! Kinda greasy at first, but it does sink in rather than rub off and thus far hasn't made me break out or itch. I'm not quite confirmed wholheartedly into the Church of Lush but I gotta say, the rough skin on my knees and the backs of my legs is softer than an android's bottom :P

*No, they're not paying me - just my own opinion.

Took another day off work in attempt to wipe the ick once and for all, to some avail. Nose firmly back to grindstone tomorrow, but not without some sticker shock:

I went to my annual eye doctor's appointment today and was disappointed both that my eyes have gotten worse and that the price of glasses is so staggering. It's been a couple of years since my last pair and even though D. wasn't working then I still don't remember my current frames costing that much!*

I took a quick cruise of the glasses shops at the local mall and tried on a few pair, and for the past hour or so I've been snooping around online to see if I can't find a bargain (or hell, just cheaper than what my doc's office is charging) and I'm already tired of looking at frames: I took the measurements off my current set and it rather limits my options as they're made for kids!

I think I've found one option that's well over the $40 promised at the site above but still substantially less than the ~$450(!) I was offered today. Any suggestions of small, local frames shops not eager to pick my pocket are most welcome!

*Don't even start me about the allergy eye drops I coughed up for. Tiniest bottle in the world. They'd better work, and I'd better always get them in right the first time :P

There IS such a thing as too much sugar. At the rate my officemates and myself are bringing candy, pastries, brownies, and cake into the office for various celebrations (Halloween, birthdays, promotions, etc.) we're all going to gain 20 lbs and fall twitching in sugar comas long, long before Xmas ever gets here :P

New SCA Fencing Practice(TM) was a bit more hopeful this week. Possible Rapier Marshal(TM) didn't show, but I now have one other person to do footwork with. Also geeked out/griped about the latest Cate Blanchett "Elizabeth" movie, 18th century naval flags communication, and opportunities to pet real Enigmas.

If I'm not too wiped by Saturday I might try to do some SCAdian gift shopping and meet some of the costumer/rapier peeps I'm hearing about. Being too wiped is a distinct possibility, however - I'm not depressed but the dark/cold weather is slowing me way down.

Besides, I want to work on the vest. I've completed the straps, so today the hems, tomorrow the WOOOOORLD! :P

Felt the urge for some pretty over the weekend, so stopped by the MAC counter and came home with Viva Glams III and VI ("They're up to six already??" I asked the saleswoman - shows how long I've been away :P) - new, shiny, and the cost goes completely to charity. Yes, I'm rationalizing :P
