Jamie Lee Curtis, non-glam version - she's on a mission to de-glam herself. Given that her career depends on her looks, I'll give her mad props for sheer nerve!

Actually, considering that she's in her 40s now, she doesn't look THAT bad au naturel, does she?

I tend to agree, not just about the smile but the face in general - faces are always more interesting than bodies, IMHO. And aesthetic beauty and sexiness often have little to do with each other, anyway - it's often all about the attitude!

I find it fascinating that of all my recent posts, this and the other one about actresses without makeup have received the most commentary. I wonder why that is? Maybe it's just refreshing to know that oh thank doG, no one is that "perfect"! It lets the non-famous masses off the hook to realize that Jamie Lee Curtis has wrinkles, large thighs, etc.

Personally I find it fascinating that Hollywood and the media are just now taking tiny baby steps into reality rather than impossible ideals [yeah, I know, they backslide a lot, but at least something is starting to happen]. Growing up in Canada, I was raised on a large proportion of British television and films [my parents preferred 'em to American, so my childhood was made up of Monty Python and Carry On movies ... explains a lot, doesn't it? ;)], so I was used to seeing REAL people on the screen rather than barbies and kens. Brit productions still make up a large percentage of my television viewing and my video/DVD collection and I tend to be very out of touch with "popular" films and shows and personalities.

Sad but true story of how glam affects the younger generations; when my oldest nephew was five, he was playing in the living room while my mother was taking a break and watching a taped Brit mystery. Tot pipes up to ask Grandma why none of the people on the TV are beautiful. That's a sample of how young an age all this appearance fixation affects people! Nephew turned 16 in June, so the affect age is likely much younger now ... if something doesn't change soon, we're gonna be building clinics for anorexic 6-month-olds!!!
