adjustments
Apr. 20th, 2007 06:14 pmThis is the 3rd day of D.'s new job, and I think I'm adjusting a bit.
Mornings require some orchestration so that we don't step on each other's feet in the bathroom or kitchen. So far, he's getting up first to exercise and get to work early, so I'm showering while he works out and making breakfast while he showers.
I get home before him, so this gives me an hour or so of "alone time" to check email, tidy, and otherwise putter before cooking dinner. This is good because it gives me a chance to decompress before doing more stuff.
What's amusing is the feline response to the new schedule :P Thang and Other Thang seem a bit confused in the mornings and follow us downstairs. Kisia in particular is on alert because I think she enjoyed having a "stay-at-home human" and just watches him from the bed. She's also more affectionate at bedtime.
When I get home they both come downstairs, however briefly, which didn't always used to be the case - they'll never admit to getting lonely.
Now the weekend's here and we're really going to break their brains by going back on the old schedule... :P

Date: 2007-04-21 02:58 am (UTC)"Another old favourite among cat games is:
BEING GOOD
Doesn't sound much like a game, but the most important rule about Being Good is that the cat should be good in such a way as to cause maximum trouble to its owner who can't however give it a thump because it is manifestly Being Good. We had a cat who would, very occasionally, catch some small, inoffensive and squeaky creature and leave it on the scraper mat outside the door. You know -- those flat scrapers that are rather like a chip slicer, with lots of little blades sticking up? And, of course, first thing in the morning you don't look down as you step out ... This might, of course, be a Real cat's way of food preparation. But we knew, and it knew, that in reality is was Being Good."
From the Games Cats Play chapter of "The Unadulterated Cat", by Terry Pratchett.
