Fortuny used a thin silk satin more finely pleated than anything ever seen in costume. His famous hand-pleating method has never been successfully duplicated.

How do you s'pose the hand-pleating is done? I can't imagine just ironing it into place....

I've been toying with various imitations of Fortuny's pleating techniques on and off since college. If you really want me to I can tell you what very little I've figured out!
