Anyone got ~$9500 lying around I could take borrow? [whimper]

On the upside, I can always use more tight, high quality closeups of Fortunys!

Oh, my LORD is that beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the detail pictures are fantastic!

Did we see something along those lines at the KSU museum when we were there - this looks awfully familiar. Or maybe you talked about it perhaps?

That is a very pretty dress. The trick would be in pleating all the fabric and then fitting it just so.

I don't think it was at KSU - I'm pretty sure I'd remember if they had one on display.

However, I did send this pic of NASM's Fortuny (http://americanhistory.si.edu/collections/hispanicdesigners/) around awhile back.

I've made a "budget version" out of polyester before - the pleating does take forever, but given the clingy nature of the pleats, minimal fitting is required - for a tighter silhouette belt it, and that's about all you have to worry about!

Yep! That's the one - I knew I remembered it from somewhere. Yow, that's absolutely stunning. That hand-pleating is fascinating!

Fortuny used a thin silk satin more finely pleated than anything ever seen in costume. His famous hand-pleating method has never been successfully duplicated.

How do you s'pose the hand-pleating is done? I can't imagine just ironing it into place....

I've been toying with various imitations of Fortuny's pleating techniques on and off since college. If you really want me to I can tell you what very little I've figured out!
