Every Thursday I have spaghetti before fencing. It's 1) fast, 2) simple, 3) just enough to fuel me without dragging me down.

Whole wheat spaghetti, half a jar of sauce, and organic ground beef. That's it.

However...

The local grocery has stopped carrying the one sauce D. and I both liked (Classico Hearty Steak) and everything else we've tried has been glitteringly bland. Edible, but not something one looks forward to or anything. We've tried bordeaux marinara, tomato and garlic and my tastebuds need more than this to get out of bed.

I know it's probably heresy to real foodies, but can anyone recommend a spaghetti sauce in a jar that has flavor?

I use Prego Three Cheese; Mushroom, Garlic, and Onion; and a couple others I can't think of off the top of my head. I have a tendency to add some oregano and garlic powder and onion powder. My mom had a Italian recipe for sauce, so I'm always doctoring to try and come close to the taste of that.

We use the Classico Cabernet Marinara, but instead of ground beef we use ground Italian turkey sausage. I so recommend making that change.

I will keep it in mind! The marinara we tried smells fabulous on the stove, but it doesn't translate to flavor. Maybe what is needed are some of the sausage spices...
