You were owned. Completely. Utterly. And without mercy.

Quote from a commenter at Daily Kos re: British MP Galloway's eloquent smackdown of the Republicans who tried to accuse him of profitting from the Food for Oil Program.

Disclaimer: I am not familiar with the MP's politics or stances - for all I know he's as creepy as the guys he reamed. But what he had to say was soo beautiful to these ears who are so sick of Democrat milquetoast:

As a matter of fact, I have met Saddam Hussein exactly the same number of times as Donald Rumsfeld met him. The difference is Donald Rumsfeld met him to sell him guns and to give him maps the better to target those guns. I met him to try and bring about an end to sanctions, suffering and war, and on the second of the two occasions, I met him to try and persuade him to let Dr Hans Blix and the United Nations weapons inspectors back into the country - a rather better use of two meetings with Saddam Hussein than your own Secretary of State for Defence made of his.

I'd buy the guy a drink for just this little bit of snark, but read the whole thing. Or better yet, watch the good bits.

Gentleman, yes.
Class, yes (I could even mistake him for British).
Spine, yes.

That's one well written sarcastic and to-the-point speach. I don't understand though how this could go as far as a hearing, if that is all the evidence presented against him? Is all the evidence hear-say? And what good television it must make...our Swedish politicians are dull dull dull when comparing ;)

Galloway claims that the papers the accusers are using as evidence against him were proven by the Christian Science Monitor to be forgeries. I don't know all the details of this - until yesterday I'd never heard of Galloway.

Usually the American politicians are dull - Republicans spout some outrageous claim, the Democrats fall over each other to be the first to say something concilatory :P What Galloway said is what the Democrats could and should be saying, but won't, because the great majority are wimps (IMHO) :P

Damn....

Who cares if he was getting some under the table? That rebuttal was great. Zowie!

Why can't WE have a senator who runs verbal rings around the opposition? Oh! That's right, I keep forgetting--the average daily newspaper sports a fifth grade vocabulary.

:)

I fear so - even if the Democrats did have balls this big, the newspapers wouldn't know what to make of it! :P

I jest, but little. Galloway did nothing more outrageous than state the truth, blatantly. That shouldn't be a novel thing; I think it says something very unflattering about the strength of the Democrats that it is.
