Ran across a site for Goth Cruises in one of my communities. Interesting, I suppose, but isn't there a hazard of tanning? It reminded me of Geek Cruises, which surprisingly is still in business, given the economy (Note they do have a section on "Convincing the Boss").

My own thoughts: I don't really know. I've never been on a cruise but I have to be honest and say the idea has never really appealed to me. I suspect I'd feel rather trapped on a boat that I can't stop exactly when I want it to. I'm also not terribly keen on having to pack in ALL my "touristing" on the limited days of shore leave - I like to take my time, wander the streets, etc.

I've also never been a huge advocate of laying in the sun for a week - weekends at the beach are nice, but after a few days I want something other than sand/surf. A book, a museum, a trip to some historic site.

I think a cruise would have to have some really great "shore" locations to appeal to me. Going down the Nile and stopping at the Valley of the Kings, the Giza plateau, etc. would be cool. So would, say, a trip in the Caribbean stopping at all the famous pirate lairs (who cares about shopping?) Yeah, it always comes back to history for me.....

Is there such a creature as "History Cruises"?

According to Only Cruising, any type of cruise theme is doable; they have a "historical" theme in their list of selections in the middle of the screen (although there's no actual cruise connected to it ... yet) ... they also list some fashion themes ***grin***

I've never quite got the appeal of cruises either ... a bit like only being allowed out of your hotel at certain times. And I agree with you on the limited appeal of beach lying, etc. ... I wanna go to the museums!!!!!

So let's go! We'll all converge in Toronto again, and this time we'll do the museums (we were going to do the X-men mansion last time, remember?) and to do the cruise part, we can rent a boat and take a day trip on Lake Ontario. That would be so much fun! And if we plan it far enough in advance, I might be able to save up for it. We could do the B&B thing again (not necessarily the same one, although it was located pretty well, I'll have to admit, but I want chairs that DON'T explode this time) and share the expenses.

Ooooh, I feel a road trip coming on!

Planned well in advance, please. I not only have to save up the money, but, with my vacation time now less than half of what it was at my old job, I've gotta get the overtime banked as well (without burning myself out :p )

And while we're avoiding the exploding chairs, let's also stay away from suidical pictures that jump off the wall and smash glass doodads without anybody even being in the room (or even on that floor!) =O

Ha ha - I'd forgotten about the picture! I only saw the aftermath of that, you know. That WAS rather creepy, wasn't it!

I agree - this would have to happen a ways off - money is very tight right now for us as well, and with Mikey in school, it's another $900 every three months on top of everything else!

Let's keep it in mind though - if not in 2005 the maybe 2006. Something to keep on the back burner.

I"m amazed every picture in the place didn't come down once I saw how they'd been hung. =O

I'd love to see everybody again ... it was, despite the creaky setting, a WONDERFUL weekend! :-))))))))))

And it was pretty nifty having the house to ourselves 99% of the time too. We were able to keep our ***strange*** behavior private, LOL!

Us? Strange? Really?

Yes, I enjoy the house to ourselves part too ... mebbe we can all chip in and rent a cottage somewhere ...

Oh, that would be fun! We'd have to be sure it had a DVD/VCR player though - maybe we could get some Lexx watched this time.

That was the one thing I DID like about the hotel we chose - it was all to ourselves. Could emphatically have lived without the frail furniture and hangings!

Should definitely try to do the cottage thing on any future outings!

Sounds like a plan, ladies. Um - and Tim, too of course.

Ditto with the $ saving thing. Got vacation out the ying-yang but no cash :(

Hmm.. fashion cruises. Maybe a.. sci-fi cruise? Lexx Cruise?

But then, the idea of being trapped on a boat with a million mad sci-fiers... hmm, scary ;)

Ye$. Fund$ are mo$t definitely an i$$ue. Well, we will just have to dream for now and maybe think about it for sometime in the future.

Sheesh - ya know, if we lived closer to each other this would be a lot easier!

Now that I'm living in a city with an international airport, flying is a tad cheaper for me. And I'd be happy to meet in the smallest backwater and stay in a Super-8 ... the important thing is being in the company of wonderful people. :-)))))

And sometimes backwaters have the quirkiest and most fascinating little local museums. ;-)
