Most of you are probably sick of hearing about the vividness of the Pink Thing; except for [livejournal.com profile] geekchick I don't think anyone else who reads this has seen the actual color. At last, I can show evidence!

I still have no pix of the fabric I'm using, but [livejournal.com profile] shemhazai does in her latest update. You see what we have to live with; our corneas may never recover!

Imagine several different historical periods in this color. With rhinestone and silver accents. In abundance.

And, oh yes - platinum blonde wigs.

Despite my bitching about the project, this is going to be so perversely fun! Loud and obnoxious has it's place, and Costume Con is definitely it.

I still hope that I can dye it black afterwards :P

OMG. That is, as we say in the doll world, Barbie pink. YIKES! :)

It reminds me of a fashion exhibit I saw at the Smithsonian a few years back. In discussing colors used for children last century, they stated that girls wore blue and boys pink because pink was considered too "strong" a color for girls.

Interesting - I've never heard that one before!

I would argue that this pink is too strong for, say, lumberjacks - maybe this could qualify as the trendy "man pink" color I've heard about?

Could be. That bright pink shirt I was wearing in ol' T.O. is a man's shirt ... and for some strange reason it looked as if it'd never been worn when I bought it at the secondhand place ... can't imagine why not ;-)))))))

I think I've missed something. What is the purpose of the pink and rhinestones and platinum wigs?

This is for a joint entry in an costume competition coming up in early April. Around 7-8 of us (I truly have lost count) are doing a routine to "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend". Each of us will wear a gown from a different historic period, each one made in this godawful color ;) Rhinestones for "diamonds" and blonde wigs to evoke our inspiration, Marilyn Monroe.

Oh dear. I shudder to think what anyone could come up with that could compete with that.

What era did you get? I could die laughing at that Victorian thing.

PROMISE you'll post pics of the whole group in costume (I really wanted to say in flagrante there).

I am actually doing Regency (ca. 1800-1810). Very high waisted and cylindrical. Think Dolley Madison.

And don't worry, there will be pictures!

Like Sense and Sensibility? The one with Emma Thompson? That's not too bad.

And hey, much less pink fabric to deal with than the victorian one.
