still no sign of spring - how long is it?

I know it's not as cold here as it is elsewhere ([livejournal.com profile] tommdroid? [livejournal.com profile] electriccat?), but I have to say I'm getting terrifically sick of the un-regionally cold weather that's been here solidly for the past 2 weeks or so. I think today might be the first day over freezing in awhile, but it is forecast to plummet back down tonight.

I'm tired of cranking the heater until my skin is so dry it's shedding like a snake's, yet it's STILL too cold to sit comfortably in my living room without a blanket!

I'm tired of wearing clothes so bulky I can hardly move just to keep warm.

I'm tired of my hands being so cold and dry that it hurts to use them.

I'm tired of my sinuses being so dry that I have near constant headaches (yes, I have a humidifier, thankyewverymuch! It's doing squat!)

I want fresh air and green grass and smells again - am I the only person that notices the lack of odor during the wintertime? There's that "crisp" smell when it's about to snow, but nothing else - no fresh grass, no mulch, not even gasoline out in the parking lot. Hell, even pollen might be welcome at this point....

I'll live, I do every winter, I just wanted to get that out.

I love winter and enjoy every minute of the 2 weeks that we get of it in Florida. Our winters linger around 60 degrees though. Tomorrow it's going to be in the 20s and 30s, which will be the coldest so far. I detest the heat and humidity that we have about 10 months a year. There really isn't much fluctuation here between spring, summer and fall unfortunately.

Grass is always greener...

;o)

Falun, Sweden today is a minus 25 Celcius, I've lost track of what that is in F, lets just say it is cold enough ;) here we go below freezing in October and come back up again in April/May. but then we do have warm houses with sufficient heating systems, all houses but mine that is ;)) plus 20 C indoors is standard.

and I love that crisp cold smell of winter and snow :))

I suffer from dry skin and dry eyes in the winter due to all the heating. especially here at the office. therefore I have alot of large potted plants in my room, the kind that requires alot of water. they keep the air moist and comfortable as long as I give them water every day.

today dawn occured at 09:00 and dusk is just setting in, at 14:32. we are indeed heading for summer :)))

It's supposed to be a balmy 46 today, something like 4 full degrees over average for today. =)

I know, it was practically tropical!

Since this seems to be the place to post winter woes: It hasn't gone above freezing in 20 days but - since I'm in a valley, we've got a nice inversion going on. If you're lucky enough not to know what that is, it means the heavier nastier smog is caught between the mountains and won't leave. The only hope is snow to catch the crap in the air and set it in the snow on the ground. However, it won't warm up enough to snow so we all just breathe it. Joy

I love snow, the wild blizzards, and cross-country skiing in sub-zero weather. I love the wind, the sleet and the um.... uh... all of it, I just love winter! But... to balance things out, I also love it when it's in the high 90's in the summer as well.

You LIKE the cold? You strange woman! :P

I do love summer though, but then, I'm always cold - I can wear long sleeves in July and not break a sweat.

I'm with you, Allison ... the cold-lovers are WEIRD!!!! ;-) Although I don't like excessive heat either ... I'm happiest between 24 and 28 degrees Celsius. Oh, and with the humidity not over-high ***giggles at Semmie's squinchy face***, not because I'm a sadist (I TOLD her where the humidifier was as soon as she mentioned it), but because the people who told me, in my teens, that my oily skin would dry out as I grew older LIED!!!! Humidity makes my skin feel, from the inside, as if I've been slathered with old, used motor oil ... ICKY!!!!!

I have to admit (Semmie ducks JLS' baleful stare) that it's much nicer here in South Dakota than it is in both Calgary and Lethbridge, Canada. It IS cold, and it IS nasty, but it's also 84percent humidity here which takes the crinkly factor out of the air. I'm also in a basement (read: nuclear bunker) and once I get it warm and humid it manages to *stay* warm and humid. I haven't needed a humidifier here, whereas in Calgary I practically *begged* JLS to close the windows and turn on the humidifier just so I could sleep. (Note: I'm also intensely grateful that there's not one in the upstairs apartment, because I'm sure I would be cooking them regularly, as I tend to crank up the heat to 74-76 degrees in the evening. But hey, I don't pay the heating bill. Nyah.)

[identity profile] anotheranon.livejournal.com 2004-01-22 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
74-76?? When can I visit? D. would die of heatstroke if I cranked the heat that high here!

Truthfully, I cannot decide whether dry cold or humid cold is better - the former means a circus of static electricity and feeling like a dried corn husk; the latter means everything feels cold and clammy.

I'll survive till spring, I guess, as long as I have my polarfleece and trusty cocoa butter lotion!
