Date: 2003-08-14 04:07 am (UTC)Re: the SCA - you've almost certainly ran into some SCAdians in your sci-fi con days as there seems to be a lot of crossover between the two groups. In SCA-geography, Ohio is part of the Midrealm (http://www.midrealm.org/), and you can probably find links there to your local subgroups etc.
Here at least Arts and Sciences seems to take a back seat to fighting (rapier, heavy combat, archery) and while the organization is one of the most open and friendly I've ever met, I just don't have the time or energy to really get much out of it! However, I'm willing to make exceptions for big arts/science events.
They do require that everyone wear "an attempt at medieval dress" to all events, but this is pretty easy to make/pull out of your own closet.
