Attn. [livejournal.com profile] hadesgirl: Knowne World Costuming Symposium

Got this gem in my email box this evening:

Mark your calendar now for next year's Knowne World Costuming Symposium (SCA event)! It will be September 25-26, 2004 at the Four Points Sheraton in North Canton, Ohio (about 60 miles south of Cleveland).

Anyone interested? It's not like I'm not giving you MASSIVE prior warning...

Well, I hope I'm able to see you before next fall! But I think we should definitely BOTH go to this!

(I know you're not the costume geek I am. But they also have dancing (http://www.caerthe.org/kwcs/classsched.html) and suchlike [scroll way down]. Day = classes; evening = clone talk!! And you could wear the latest in medieval Viking! (http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/europe/08/09/offbeat.viking.catwalk.ap/index.html) [click "Gallery"])

I checked the seminars - how will you ever choose which ones to attend?

Also - is there a main site where I can check out some more information? This does sound interesting. Besides, it'll give Aji and Sense some quality time together, LOL!!!!

This is technically a listing of this year's classes - the SCA plans these things WAYY in advance, but this is probably representative of what to expect next year. The N. Canton event already has a page (http://4th.com/sca/alderford/events/kwcs2004/), but there's not much there.

Re: the SCA - you've almost certainly ran into some SCAdians in your sci-fi con days as there seems to be a lot of crossover between the two groups. In SCA-geography, Ohio is part of the Midrealm (http://www.midrealm.org/), and you can probably find links there to your local subgroups etc.

Here at least Arts and Sciences seems to take a back seat to fighting (rapier, heavy combat, archery) and while the organization is one of the most open and friendly I've ever met, I just don't have the time or energy to really get much out of it! However, I'm willing to make exceptions for big arts/science events.

They do require that everyone wear "an attempt at medieval dress" to all events, but this is pretty easy to make/pull out of your own closet.
