I've not read Slashdot in awhile, but at D.'s suggestion I HAD to check out their link to the X-wing Honda Civic. I have a Civic - think I should do this after I finish the Pink Thing? :P

Also, probably old news to everyone else, but I'll repeat it anyway: Farscape is to return as a 4 hour miniseries. Not as good as renewing it, but I'm not going to turn my nose up at 4 more hours of bad pop cultural references, tight black leather, and angst!

For costume nrrds: The Great Pattern Review. Primarily historic costume patterns, though I notice a few Vintage Vogues and Simplicitys in there (would love the backstory on the vinyl Elizabethan!) The great thing is that the site shows finished versions of many of the patterns, illustrating beautifully how you can make something original by selection of trim and or fabric.

The Beating-A-Dead-Horse Dept: the GPR includes the pattern I'm currently fighting with; it seems that the few people who had problems encountered them in the same place (the bodice). Think I'll cut a size smaller and see what happens.

I've traveled even less than you:

it's just embarrassing )

It's a constant source of shame for me that I'm not better traveled. I couldn't even include the red expanse of Canada until this past year, when I visited Toronto.

And yes, I'm aware that only maybe 25% of Americans that actually own a passport (ok, the actual percentage is debateable, and that travel (especially international travel) is costly and takes a lot of vacation time, so I'm lucky to have left the lower 48 at at all. Nonetheless, it still picks at me. Perhaps it's because D. and so many of my friends are truly well traveled and I feel so uncultured; maybe it's jealousy because I WANT to go more places than I have, but haven't been able to.

At any rate, that map is it :(

After an evening's contemplation and a good night's sleep, I decided to act on some fitting recommendations from h-costume and have another go at the dress pattern.

Note to self, and to anyone else who attempts this pattern: It is workable but sized incredibly large! If the pattern envelope is to be believed, I wear a size 8 instead of 12(a US ready-to-wear size 4-6 - shyeah right!!). This size seems to fit yet still leave a bit of wiggle room, which works out - I'm not trained to be as immobile as fine ladies of the early 19th century :P

Next step: cutting out muslin sleeves in same size for practice.

The Asciimation Wars - all of your favorite Star Wars characters lovingly rendered in ASCII text! Gotta get this guy and the X-Wing Honda dude together - it would be a match made in time-wasting heaven!
