Preventing future same sex marriages while allowing those that took place before the ruling to remain valid makes it seem like the CA Supreme Court is trying to have it both ways, while pissing off everyone - Christ on a cracker, if you're going to let those married stay married then gay marriage can't be all that bad, can it?

Gads, let's move into the 21st century already. Marriage for all consenting adults! It's just not that difficult.

I think they are leaving it opened to be challenged in the Supreme Court of the US.

What people seem to fail to realize is that the only thing the California court ruled on was the validity of the law in terms of it being voted into effect in a correct and appropriate way. Which it was. Shame on you Cali! The Court was not there to rule on the overall worth of the law, just whether or not it was valid under the Cali consitution. By stating specifically that all marriages which pre-date Prop 8 are valid, the Court was doing what little it could under these circumstances to take a stand which is pro same sex marriage. Now the legislature and people of Cali need to get their heads out of their collective arses and correct the mistake or else admit that Cali ain't as liberal as the coastal folks seem to want it to be.
