It is the bane of my existence, it is. Grueling group lesson last night would not have been quite so demanding if my right hip and backside would get - and stay - online.

It's not pain, it's just weakness - this particular muscle cluster wears out long before the rest of me does and I can't keep my balance!

Same deal with my knees, though not as bad. They're singing backup for my side.

I need to do the exercises Badger recommended but time them correctly - done heavily the day before a practice I'm even weaker :(

I think I need to start with less weight/resistance and/or fewer reps than I started with, and work my way up.

But it's annoying as all hell.

Hmmmm ... have you considered researching strengthening exercises for male ballet dancers? Sounds like an odd thing to consider, I know, but they specifically work on glutes as well as lower back not only to be able to lift and manipulate their partners without showing any effort, but to absorb the shock of catching them when they leap without any staggering back. And to keep doing it repeatedly for an entire performance that consists of alternating flurries of activity and rest.

The above suggestion is meant quite seriously (read Frank Augustyn's biography if you want to find out how much effort goes into catching a flying ballerina) ... however the part of my brain that obviously needs something better to is now contemplating what a terror you could be on the strip if you could work a grand jette into your attack ...
