Booked airline tix last night. We are in, in, in for Florence.

Went out tonight to look for shawlish/pashmina thing to keep warm on trip/wear with summer dress for wedding next weekend (because there was nary a dress in the place - WTF?)

Working like a crazy person at work.

Trying to get a few shreds of Italian in in evenings.

I am so jealous of you getting to go to Florence! That conference is going to be so amazing. I looked at the prices a couple of months ago and realized there was no way we could swing it. So you have to take a ton of pictures and notes so that I can do some vicarious living!

Hurrah for official tickets!

Re the language ... once you're surrounded by it, you'll likely to be pleasantly surprised to discover that you've actually learned more than you thought.

I'm so hoping that that's the case!

Well, I find that if I watch a French movie that my now-decrepit French seems to regrow somewhat as I listen ... after the first half hour or so I start to be able to notice differences between what's being said and what's in the English subtitles, and if I'm really paying attention I'll get to the point where I can watch parts of the film without having to read the bottom of the screen. It's amazing what's stored away in one's brain that just needs a bit of dusting ..

Actually, if you own any movies with an Italian language track option, I recommend watching them on that track ... you already know the plot and the dialogue in English and you'll find that that helps you get the gist and then full meanings of the Italian (I used to do this on occasion if a movie I was familiar with was being broadcast on one of the local French channels ... not only a good refresher, but it was French as it's really spoken rather than the stilted conversation in language teaching materials)
