recap - the short version
Sep. 7th, 2008 10:24 pm'Cos as ever I'm running around like a chicken with my head cut off:
Yesterday was a good competition. The weather was crap, with minimal visibility during the drive and the club was hidden around and around and around a corner. But! I won half my pool bouts and though I struck out in my first DE it wasn't a total rout like last time - I managed to get 7 touches before I lost, and I used up most of the time given me (ran into 3rd period, for those fencing sorts reading).
Most importantly, I kept my head on and was alert but not panicking, calm but not passive. Must achieve this headspace more often, and hold it!
Extra bonus - I was not physically completely demolished at the end of the day, a trend which I hope holds as it sure would be nice not to have to write off most of a weekend every time I compete!
Today the weather was nice so I popped open the windows (yay!) and managed to sit down long enough to do some sewing for the first time in 2 weeks. I'm putting the sleeve bands/installing the sleeves by hand (i.e., no machine) for finer control so it's a slow crawl, but - it IS crawling.
This evening went out to see "The Dark Knight" for the 2nd time with
dotheranon - now in Imax! Five stories of Batman is very, very good. Ledger still owns the Joker role. The flying scenes in Hong Kong are delightful.
Now: moving some laundry and MP3s around and petting the circling orange cat before bed. Thang and Other Thang had a good weekend too, as they love a good open window. Kisia in particular got a lot of people-time on the sofa helping D. and I sew/watch Buffy DVDs.

Date: 2008-09-08 03:47 pm (UTC)But I had much better luck on Sunday in the epee event, where I tied for 3rd. Ha, it amuses me to imagine the two weapons as suitors, with epee rushing forward, flowers in hand, to seize its opportunity after foil's done me wrong. :-P
Did you say you were doing Kickoff this year? If so, good luck!

Date: 2008-09-09 02:28 am (UTC)Why do you think that is, about D vs. C and up? I've honestly not done enough competitions to figure out a pattern for myself.
Not doing kickoff (that's the VA thing this weekend, right?) but having looked at the MD division alone I am hoping to fence at least 2-3 more competitions before November!
