some notes on FL trip
Sep. 2nd, 2008 06:26 pm- Much, much more casual than DC - more flip flops and shorts than I could count. But, lots more makeup (?)
- The Gulf coast was the perfect re-entry beach for me, considering I've not been to one in ~10 years (!) - shallow, warm, and not too many/high waves.
- Of course, we had to wait for the Gustav tails to pass over - damn!
- Also, much prettier/less crowded in the early morning :)

Date: 2008-09-03 03:40 am (UTC)Ah, yes that and big hair were the mainstays of Florida fashion when I was growing up.
Was the pace slower there than in DC or were you not there long enough to tell?
I've lived through more than one FL hurricane and I wouldn't wish that on anyone! Glad you got out okay!

Date: 2008-09-04 03:48 am (UTC)Really? Same thing in GA, though for all these years I chalked it up to being a symptom of time (the '80's) rather than place. When were you living there?
I couldn't tell you about the pace - we had parties Saturday and Sunday and family activities all 4 days. Busy, but a different kind of busy where I didn't have to keep up with stuff - other people were making the plans, I just had to show up.
We didn't really get Gustav in Tampa as such - just the edges of it. Lots of wind and rain though!

Date: 2008-09-04 10:16 am (UTC)I'm from FL, so I was living there in the 70's (as a baby), 80's and 90's.
Good, I'm glad. Hurricanes are not fun.
