GTD update

I got a pack of index cards and a recipe box to start an embryonic "getting things done" plan - one thing to do per card; when task is done the card gets thrown out (or reshuffled to the back of the pack if it's something that repeats). [livejournal.com profile] dotheranon is giving me use of the GTD book and some templates.

Hopefully this will help me keep up with all my bajillion tiny theengs...

You might also find [livejournal.com profile] yesthattom's book Time Management for System Administrators useful too. It's based on similar GTD principles, and it's not just for sysadmins; as one of the commenters at O'Reilly says, it could just as appropriately be called "Time Management for Techies Who Get Interrupted Frequently". I tried it out for a while at work and it definitely helped me get back on track, but I never quite got it into an established habit. =/ I should try again.

And don't forget about GTTFD with Henry Rollins. ;)

I'll take a look at TMFSA as soon as I have a chance (spoken like a true unorganized person :P)

Re: GTTFD - yeah, fear might be a good motivator to start/keep the habit :P

I like the card method, too. It works best for me if I always have cards and a pen handy, so that no fleeting thought or idea goes uncaptured. I have them in my purse, on the bedside table, and in the visor of my car. Then during my morning review I put them all into OmniFocus.

Keeping the cards on hand is the habit I'm trying to get into - none of this "I'll make a note when I get back to my desk/when I get home" etc. stuff.

Once I get this habit embedded I might try looking at OmniFocus or other software - I'm actually trying not to rely TOO heavily on any one technology because computers crash, apps break, etc. Having said this, I'm finding my Google Calendar notifications helpful...
