order out of chaos

Didn't have a good day today.
Started making the coffee this morning only to find - no coffee. Things didn't go downhill from there, but they certainly didn't improve and I spent most of the day mentally treading water.
Java shortage is only part of the problem (got a cup of high octane once I got to work) - in the past few weeks I've been trying to remember a million small things and am failing miserably because I'm crap at organizing and prioritizing.
dotheranon has promised to introduce me to the Getting Things Done method and I'm willing to give it a swing if it will help me with my little juggling act.
Even though I'm mentally toast I still went to fencing club because even when everything else is up in the air, fencing gives me a restricted context in which I can force order, where there's an intention and plan for every move and countermove, and nothing exists outside that quarter-sized bit of my opponent's target.
I'm trying to take some of the lessons I learn on the strip into the rest of my life: attentiveness, mindfulness, having a plan but knowing when to change it and how.
Sometimes I'm able to transfer a tiny bit of my training into the real world, and I'm trying to recognize the patterns of when and how that happens.
Today I was just too tired and overwhelmed to do it :(
But, another thing I learned from fencing - if one thing doesn't work, try something else....
