guilt-inducing time-suck
Apr. 17th, 2008 06:37 pmWasted Food. I swear, sometimes I think I must have been a starving kid in [insert country here] in a former life because it has always grated on me whenever I throw something "perfectly good" (or not) out. This gut reaction isn't enough to stop me completely though - the fruit and veg that regularly go bad before I get to it is embarrassing.
We do try to eat leftovers and I always shop with a grocery list (always have but stick to it even more closely with the rising prices), and I have vague fantasies of gardening/composting if we ever own a place with the space to do so, but I'm a creature of habit/convenience and have to admit that I doubt I'd want to put forth the effort (assuming I could conquer my brown thumb in the first place) :/

Date: 2008-04-17 10:58 pm (UTC)There are only so many leftovers I can eat (I'm the primary leftover eater.) I'm trying to do better as well. Shopping more often means I'm less likely to buy something I won't cook.
And don't get me started on restaurants. Most places serve as a single serving, what I would make for the three of us. Pasta is the worst. I've had pasta out, brought the leftovers home and served the leftovers to the three of us the next evening and **still** had leftovers to toss. **eyeroll** If they cut portion size maybe there'd be less waste.
