entering the 21st century part III: Rationale

Because for some reason LJ won't let me tack this after the poll:

I ask because I've not bought any music in several years and while I love the convenience of audio files, I don't know how likely it is that I'll find rare/reissued/out of print material converted to MP3. Besides, are the advantages of not having more discs cluttering up shelf space worth the loss of cover art/liner notes/the like?

I can't imagine ever voluntarily giving up the physical music forms ... along with the art and notes, it's just the REALness of the things. Although my music is all copied onto my computer as well (had to do something to reduce the echoes in that huge hard drive, and having it "prerecorded" is a convenience if somebody is curious about something in my online music list and wants a sample), I still prefer to stick disks or tapes into the appropriate machine and listen that way ... what usually sounds through my computer speakers is online radio (especially BBC7) and a few downloaded odds and ends (primarily British comedy snippets and old radio shows) that aren't available any other way.
