After last weekend's adventures in poor food choices, I did a bit of reading up on competitive pre-loading and nutrition and general and have been making a concerted effort to improve my diet.

Some of the pre-game eating advice I saw repeatedly was not to eat anything new or novel right before a competition, so I've been readjusting my stomach by noshing on fruit when I want a quick snack (as opposed to, say, hot chocolate, doughnuts, muffins, or snack machine food).

[livejournal.com profile] dotheranon commented that I'm treating eating fruit like it's a chore, and while it's not that awful, it's true trying to make a habit out of something that currently isn't involves (for me) treating it less like food and more like medicine :P

And it is working - I felt a little hungry last night after dinner and instead of automatically choosing chocolate, I went for a banana.

However, I am also starting to see how adding more fruits/veg makes me want to eat 5-6 little meals a day - they're better for me but MAN do they burn up quick!

Perhaps not entirely unrelated. After soaking, do they get dry enough to travel well? I'm thinking competition-day munchies.

Well, they are effectively pickled in vinegar, so they don't go bad, per se.

I've never tried drying them again after soaking them.

I'm sure they would travel well in a waterproof container, maybe as a part of a fruit salad they'd be interesting once drained.

Hmmm, now I'm getting creative.
