- this is a guess, as I don't think I have any way of knowing

- no, a thousand times no! My parents made it very clear that they would pay no credit card bills of mine and not to get one until I was full-time employed. This is one of the better things they ever did for me!

- Ditto - I was extremely lucky that my parents were zealous savers and my dad was chronically overprepared financially - he started saving for mine and my sister's education when we were born.

- once I was a teenager, yes, mostly (some vigorous thrifting in there), but a lot of my childhood clothes were consignment/hand me downs. Makes sense to me - toddlers don't really care how fashionable they are, why buy new when they're going to outgrow them fast anyway?
Your parents bought you a car that was not a hand-me-down from them
There was original art in your house when you were a child
Had a phone in your room before you turned 18 - had a phone jack, but not my own line

- not sure - I seem to remember them paying it off while I was in college

You were unaware of how much heating bills were for your family - yes, in that I never knew dollar amounts or saw the actual bills. I do remember repeated injunctions to close the door because "we're not heating/air conditioning the whole outdoors" and the like :P
So yeah - I was incredibly fortunate to grow up when, where, and with who I did.
On a completely different theme: The GOP Primary Field in Buffy Villians. I agree with whoever commented that in their starched suits they all look rather like the mute floating guys from "Hush" :P
