I bet D. the Harry Potter series was going to turn out like Star Wars - we think it's about the protagonist and his friends on the hero's journey (Harry/Hermoine/Ron = Luke/Leia/Han) but it's really about the redemption of the villian (Darth Vader = Snape, in this case).

Was I wrong? </Walter from Big Lebowski> Ok, perhaps not ENTIRELY like Star Wars, (unlessss.... Voldemort = Emperor?) but I really left "Deathly Hallows" thinking about Snape's tragic history - he didn't need to be redeemed, but he did all his big damn heroics entirely in deep cover, with no thanks (in life, at least) except from Dumbledore.

Makes me want to re-read "Half Blood Prince" as it seems to be the most Snape-backgroundy book, IIRC.
