Short shorts:
Went to see the new Harry Potter on Saturday. I enjoyed it, ESPECIALLY Imelda Staunton as Umbridge, though I gather from reviews that she didn't stick to Rowling's "toad-like" vision for the character. I thought she was evil thinking it's good incarnate! I will say I think it helps that I've not read the book in awhile; indeed, I kept wondering when something was going to happen, only to realize that it happened in "Half Blood Prince" :/
I checked out a local SCA rapier practice to meet with Shem's friend J., and I'm glad I did! Though the weaponry and safety rules are somewhat different than what I'm used to, there is an awareness of the "old masters" and their techniques that I favor, and some of the fencers were startlingly good (more practice = more perfect). I'm considering fencing with them again, because if I want to keep doing rapier I need to fence more people/more often. The marshal allows for "self directed study" - and I think I know just enough to know what I need to work on (my hand parries, which suck. As in, are nonexistent). I'm wondering whether the fencers there would be amenable to just drilling with me, because I don't think I'm ready for just free-fencing.
Sci Fi teevee squees: Farscape returns (thank you for the news
tommdroid!) and Spike from 'Buffy' to appear on Torchwood, evidently in a steamy scene with Captain Jack.
Funny (to me) video found at
tinynibbles: Gold dust-snorting Snow White spanks naughty miners.
