For collecting all those sexy pictures.

Women with swords are definitely hot, mm-kay?

In fact, that's the main reason I like the book "King of Morning, Queen of Day" so much...because of Eithne, who fights the forces of Faerie with flashing electric samurai swords in parking lots at 3 am. I think I need to go read that again.

As for more women with swords, I think you'll like these:
Highlander, the immortal amanda (http://home.comcast.net/~brons/Maupin/Amanda.html); Red Sonja (http://www.thespinningimage.co.uk/cultfilms/images/192.jpg), and of course, Uma Thurman in Kill Bill (http://img.timeinc.net/time/asia/magazine/2002/0916/thurman.jpg)...yummy!

[headsmack] How could I have forgotten about Kill Bill? Uma Thurman AND Lucy Liu (http://www.geocities.com/dailydigest3/ewfallpre_kill1.jpg)!

And thanks for the tip re: Amanda - that's the closest I think I'm ever gonna see to La Maupin on screen! Is that the movie or the series?

Another from fiction ... [livejournal.com profile] shemhazai's mention of Red Sonya reminded me of Robert E. Howard's Dark Agnes de Chastillon (who had three stories of her very own, while the original Red Sonja is only mentioned on two pages of his "The Sowers of the Thunder"). :-)

You're welcome. I think you'd like Dark Agnes ... a French woman earning her living as a mercenary after escaping her arranged marriage to an abusive drunk by stabbing the groom at the altar (Howard gives no dates, but a mention of Louise of Savoy places the tales in the early 16th-century)

One more ... a gorgeous cover painting and a must-read book if you like women with swords: C.J. Cherryh's The Paladin (painting by Gary Ruddell ... I love the detail of Taizu's opponent reflected in her eyes)

That is an awfully nice cover - is the book as good?

Very Cherryh good ... I've reread my copy several times and plan to do so many more ... :-) It's the story of a young woman learning the art of the sword so she can avenge her family, and the exiled warrior who is her reluctant teacher.

Cool collection! Here via [livejournal.com profile] vvalkyri.

There *should* be pictures of Emma Peel with a foil, but I haven't found any yet. I think there should be some of Geena Davis too (pirate captain in Cutthroat Island), also not found yet.

FYI, http://images.allmoviephoto.com/thief.gif = The page isn't redirecting properly

Ooh - thanks for the pointer re: Cutthroat Island! Geena Davis has always been so marvelous! I found one of her (http://www.weirdwildrealm.com/filmimages/cutthroatisland.jpg), at this page on Swashbuckling Sirens (http://www.weirdwildrealm.com/f-swashbucklingsirens.html)!

I'll take a look at the "theif.gif" link and see what's up...
