Damn.

I got up unnaturally early this morning (8:30 - well, that's unnatural for me, for a weekend), just not able to sleep anymore. Seeing the possibility of not losing my entire Sunday to fencing, I had plenty to fill up the morning:

Tux pants: Thought I had the satin side-stripe completed, but NOOO! I was one centimenter too far from the edge, and as such had no seam allowance left (and crepe back satin ravels like a bitch, so a thread too narrow is really 40 threads too narrow). Disassemble, re-place, sew, iron = more or less where I left off last night :/ I don't think I'm going to finish these in time for next weekend, but I'll make do - hell, tailcoats go with everything...

New food experiment: no-lactose cottage cheese makes a fair (and healthy!) veggie dip, part of my new campaign to not eat as much peanut butter on weekends :P

Laundry - massive buttloads of laundry. I did not know it was possible for two people to use THAT many washcloths in a week!

Cat watching: the Wars of the Box - new box in the floor = plenty of opportunity for territorial dispute. I startled them out of it when they started hissing (hissing = someone not having fun anymore). Winner: Kisia via squatters rights.

Finally, I hiked out for historic fencing, for my first (semi) full day of smallsword bouting. The first 1 1/2 hour was a review of basic footwork and parries; the last 1 1/2 hour was one point bouts.

Hooboy, this was hard! I've been working on keeping my distance in sport foil for the past 2 weeks, but the measure in smallsword is so comparatively close that you rely heavily on bladework. I lost about as many bouts as I won - which considering this is my first experience in actual dueling conditions, I suppose this isn't bad.

Alas, my mask got such a hard hit that it split my lip - not pretty and very painful to eat and talk (Chapstick is my friend). Looks like I will have that swank dueling scar after all, giving my face the character it so desperately lacked :P

On the bright side, a fencing buddy recommended alcohol wipes/benzoyl peroxide scrub to help prevent "mask acne", and it seems to be working - no new breakouts, or at least none getting out of control.

Dinner was chicken burgers - after fencing 3 hours with a 2 hour commute I craved meat!

One of the paragraphs above contains an April fool. You guess which ;)

EEP! Hoping, for your sake, that the fooling is either the split lip or (2nd place) the having to redo the evil known as satin! =O

And that all the pleasant/amusing stuff is the real thing. :-)
