Tonight we did the advance-lunge exercise (step and lunge, if you come up short, retreat furiously while your opponent steps and lunges at you. Restart when someone scores a touch. Repeat until you can't. Take a 5 minute break and do it all again!). My biggest problem with this exercise is not the constant running/lunging back and forth, it's remembering to breathe correctly, specifically, getting a full lungful of air before exhaling :P The 2nd and 3rd rounds I paid more attention to this (breathe out on the lunge, in on the recovery) but it's still incredibly taxing.

In the short run my endurance was not helped (though hopefully in the long term it will be) by the fact that I did crunches and reverse crunches with a 6 lb medicine ball and pushups before I went to club (what can I say, perusing the 300 workout and Stumptuous.Com for the 300th time made me feel like I was slacking :/). So I had a bit of wear going in.

Still, my distance game is improving and I'm more confident in my footwork. I think next week I might do well to bone up on parries though, as I missed so many tonight.

Also received my electric foil repair kit in the mail this week, so I'm one inch closer to havinging the equipment I need to be competition-ready.

Stumptuous Rocks! Though, yeah, that exercise plan is pretty chilling. Even with the ass-busting I've been doing three days a week at the gym, it's going to be a lo-o-o-o-ng time before I'm up to 50 pushups.

On the bright side, I can now do 5 "real" pushups before my lower back screams at me to stop! I just tried this last night. I remember when I couldn't do any. Guess all those 100 lb bench presses are paying off.

Speaking of buffness, I found a bit of Starbuck pr0n (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUL5fzNCeKk) I think you will like...

Hey - congrats on the pushups (and 3 times a week, damn!) Who's the buff one now? :)

And thanks for the video - can't hear, but can see much ;) [livejournal.com profile] zen4me, definitely check out - montage of Starbuck working out/Starbuck hotness!
