trial running/breaking in
Feb. 18th, 2007 10:21 pmToday I broke in "Skeeter" at the historic fencing practice. A number of us had My First Smallswords today and compared grips, hilts, decoration, etc. Yes, we sword-geeked :P
We also fenced, and despite finesse over physicality with smallsword it was still a pretty good workout. Disengages and coupes are similar enough to foil so that I was able to pick them up fairly quickly.
Also tried out my venetians. They've been finished for a month and I was going to wait until the doublet was completed so I could wear them together, but then I figured, what the hell...
They wear surprisingly well! Easy to move in, warm without being smothering, no hooks/eyes popping open and no chafing in inopportune places. I even got a couple of compliments.
One slight structural bicker: they don't quite cover my knees when I sit down, and while the sock gap isn't as unsightly (nor have as much at stake) as Coupling's Sock Gap, I think these will best be worn with over-the-knee socks in future :P
