Today I was reminded of You Can't Do That on Television, possibly my earliest exposure to Weird Canadian TV(TM), though I didn't know it was Canadian at the time - I was about 8 or 9, and my sister and I thought it was the Best Show Ever on my parents then-new cable tv subscription, and we both watched it obsessively.

I remember very little of it, and only the most obvious bits: the Gilliam-esque intro, bad burger jokes and the ubiquitous green slime.

It is a testament to my childhood obsession that we once attempted to make our own green slime, using dishwashing liquid and green food dye and I can't remember what else. I also can't remember who got slimed, but I DO remember that my mom was cool enough to let us carry out this theatrical experiment, as long as we kept it outside.

Good times...

Holy crap I loved this show growing up! A young Alanis...green slime...bondage galore! That and Dangermouse were my Saturday morning crack for many years.

I'll be honest - I remember very little (bondage or otherwise) from the show - the only reason I remember the firing squad thing is because the intro video I linked above cuts straight into it! Are you telling me this might be another subliminal influence from my childhood??

Re: Alanis - I was surprised to read that the show kept going long enough to have a young Alanis Morrissette!

They were always getting tied up for the firing squad skits and a few others if I remember correctly.

Poor Alanis, she had REALLY bad hair back then.
