anotheranonD. and I have been applying "budget insulation" (read: pallet wrap) to the windows in fits and starts for the past week or so. Fits and starts because 1) it's a bitch to work with (only slightly heavier than saran wrap, it clings to itself in all the wrong places/times in just the same way), and 2) the occasional fits of warm weather is a strong disincentive.
Because even though it's not pretty, it DOES work! We wrapped most of the upstairs windows last week and when it got warm this weekend the bedroom was like an oven (80F when not running the heat). Given the predicted warm weather again this weekend, I'm reluctant to go to the frustrating effort if we're going to need to tear it down to open the windows, but when it does get cold it's going to save us $ on the heat bill. Decisions, decisions...
