Icon speaks of my overall mood - out of sorts but not quite into the "grumpy" box, then reading my LJ I realized: that's right, it IS the shortest day of the year! Which is good, because it means they can start getting longer from here on out!

Fencing: went painfully slowly last night, due to technical difficulties (bad wiring = scoring buzzer going off when it shouldn't). Very annoying and too much standing around (and too few people! I mean, IMHO fencing = holiday, why did everyone stay home? </vent>) :P Given that my Usual Club is closed the week between Xmas and New Year's, I'm checking the schedules of all the Other Local Clubs because can't...go..a week... WITHOUT!

[livejournal.com profile] tinynibbles has her own top year's 10 sexiest geeks (love the "GILF" abbreviation!), most of which I've not heard of, but many of whom seem geeky enough for me to rethink my lack of attention :P As for her curiosities about the Ninja's sex life, perhaps she should just ask - after all, that's what he's there for.

And via [livejournal.com profile] vree, my very English-sounding Peculiar Aristoractic title, though I'd prefer "Queen of All Londinum With Shiny Hat":
My Peculiar Aristocratic Title is:
Marchioness A. Non the Crepuscular of Frogging over Womble
Get your Peculiar Aristocratic Title

I've not been keeping up with LJ or email as well as I could - if there's something important I've missed, point me at it.

I am tired and disoriented and sore (lifted weights tonight), going to do a bit of sewing and watch "The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes" (and if Holmes and Watson aren't more than "hetero life partners", I'll eat my shiny hat)...

You've just cleared up one of my long-standing mental "huh?"s ... thank you. The Holmes/Watson/slash thing has always been the only one that made no sense to me, but your phrasing must have been just the right word combination to finally penetrate the ol' gray matter. The key word being "watch". I grew up in a house that contained a multi-volume "Complete Sherlock Holmes", but I don't think I've ever actually WATCHED a Holmes movie/series.

In Doyle's stories, Watson becomes Holmes' roommate in the first tale, but falls in love with a young lady involved in the case ... between that story and the second Watson has married her and, naturally, moved out of the Baker Street digs and stays happily wed for the rest of the series; his future involvement in cases tends to be based on dropping in for a visit and finding Holmes in the middle of something or being contacted at home by Holmes and invited along. Presumably in all the filmed versions, the pair are portrayed as permanent roommates.

And yeah, I probably could have figured this out LONG ago if I'd bothered to think about it, but this "magic discovery" method is much more fun. :p

See, I never read the books, my only familiarity is this series (http://www.amazon.com/Adventures-Sherlock-Holmes-Boxed-Collection/dp/B000060MVK) made for Granada TV in the 1980s, in which Holmes seems antagonistic to most women and consistently refers to Watson as his "dear friend and colleague" - I'm sure the writers/directors/actors never meant to suggest anything, but the "two old bachelors, one nice, one cantankerous" just reads slashy to this modern eye :P

Ah yes, the Jeremy Brett series ... supposed to be the best of the visual versions. And Holmes being antagonistic towards women is something that IS in the written version, so that's 100% kosher and canon (Watson being a bachelor is definitely TV-generated).

One o' these days I'll get 'round to viewing a episode or ten. In the meantime I have a tremendous urge to re-read my not-quite-complete-but-darned-close-to-it, original-Strand-Magazine-illustrations edition of Holmes. :-)

P.S. If you want to add to your to-read list, "A Study in Scarlet" is the tale in which Watson first meets a very strange gent named Holmes.
