celebrities in Vivienne Westwood
Sep. 17th, 2006 02:27 pmThere is one great reason to follow celebrities - they have the means/motive to wear gorgeous designer clothes that the rest of us can only dream about.
Of course, most of them dress in predictable Calvin Klein or Versace, which while beautiful gets kind of old.
Behold! Dita Von Teese had all her wedding gear done by Vivienne Westwood (large photos at the link, all worksafe) - I've got to give her major points on choosing a not-run-of-the-mill designer. And though Westwood's ballgowns are wonderful foofy huge skirted concoctions of miles of taffeta, if you scroll to the bottom you get to see what she does with traditional English tweed!
Sorry if I'm a bit effusive, I just think VW gets short shrift in the U.S., and she's one of my favorite designers. Shutting up now, to work on some sewing of my own...

Date: 2006-09-19 02:05 am (UTC)I've not ever seen Westwood sold outside of (maybe) Saks/Neimans. AFAIK her only American boutiques are in NYC, and I seldom see her featured in any of the U.S. fashion magazines. In truth, I do not know why this would be so, because as you say, she's a huge influence elsewhere.
