I suspect because that's one of the few fan communities that non-sci-fi fans are aware of. I also notice that other "media" fandoms (Firefly, Stargate, Farscape) aren't mentioned, likely because whoever is making this hasn't heard of them ("established sci fi tv producers" my eye!)

I wonder if these were the same "established sci fi tv producers" who created the series 'Earth 2' and publicly bragged "We've never seen a single episode of Star Trek" - - - and proved that was not a good thing - -

Tim Curry was the only thing that show had going for it, and his character was NUTS - - :p Did anyone else want to slap the whiney little girl? Or is that just my flashback talking? :)

I've seen the show, but I never did catch on to it. It just didn't......work I guess is the word.

It was a really cool concept - - stranded colonists, forgotten prisoners, some kind of conspiricy from dear old Earth - - but they just didn't have the writing chops to pull it off. Plus, I just wanted to SMACK the whiney little girl - - I'm pretty sure she would have ended up dooming the entire colony eventually - - :P

That was the show that had a really sick kid and aliens who sucked the kid through the ground and healed him right? I don't remember a whiny little girl. I guess that tells you how much of it really sunk in. :)

Never saw it. Maybe they're the sci fi producers responsible for Sci Fi's "Earthsea" and "Tremors" which were both abysmal, and not the same folks who did "Farscape" and the new BSG.

How is it that sci fi series over the past few years are either EXCELLENT or absolutely awful, I wonder?

I know the scifi original series tend to be very much hit-or-miss; for every 'Battlestar Galactica' there's about 10 "Mansqito"s. I quite liked the remake of "Dune", while "Earthsea" looked promising but ulitmately failed to flower. Mind you, they have had a few entertaining B-movies - - not great scifi by any means, but at least entertaining.

Yeah. I know. It's just not exciting to me. I'm nerdy in such a different way.

TV = costumes, so I do get the appeal of tv fandom (gourd, I participate in enough of 'em don't I? :P)

Nah, what I don't get is wanting to be in a documentary and auditioning for same, but then, I'm introverted.
