From [livejournal.com profile] dailygrail: An interview with the old-skool "ufologist" who first came up with the idea that UFOS, fairies, ghosts, angels etc. are just different interpretations of the same thing (whatever that thing ultimately happens to be).

Very cool, if you're into This Sort Of Thing(TM).

The late Carl Sagan made an interesting connection between visions of the Virgin Mary and of UFOs in his The Demon-Haunted World ... based on their being symptoms of the suggestibility of the human brain rather than reality, though. :p

I've read "The Demon Haunted World". It and How To Think About Weird Things (http://www.defectiveyeti.com/archives/000404.html) should be background reading for anyone delving into the paranormal/UFOs/generalized weirdness.

I've been reading about weird stuff a long time and I've started to suspect that much of abduction and ghost lore has more to teach us about human perception than about anything going on in the exterior world. The human brain is an interesting place, and "reality" can be HIGHLY subjective, particularly if it's something you don't understand or have never seen before.

Case studies of false memory syndrome provide some interesting insights as well ... especially those cases where the individuals KNOW their brain is making things up and have had to learn to compare events/timelines to determine what was and wasn't real.
