Today my car had a flat tire.

I discovered this just as I was getting onto the freeway home, and very regrettably, freaked out.

Not because it was horribly traumatic, but because sitting on the shoulder of the 270 during rush hour with the whooshing of every car going by jolting my car is unnerving as hell. Because of all the sensible things I could have been wearing (jeans, sneakers), I chose today to wear a skirt and hose. Because no matter how it was resolved, I was still going to be sitting several hours in the dark and cold with few defenses.

D. was the Big Damn Hero - talked me down on the phone (he was the one who insisted we needed cellphones again, for just such a situation) and came and handled the situation, including sitting with me waiting for AAA with tools (I had a spare) to arrive.

Extra cool tidbits: while we were waiting for AAA, a state DOT "emergency services" came by and put the spare on for us. As I understand, this is what they do - drive around and help with minor fixes like this. Even a cop checked on us, because a nice commuter had reported an accident. Normally I'm wary whenever I see the flashing lights in my rearview mirror, but..... that was nice.

Got home around 8 and ordered a massive pizza for the Big Damn Hero and myself. My black mood has lifted :)

Will get the tire (perhaps all the tires - I'm long overdue for new ones) replaced tomorrow or Friday, weather permitting - allegedly there's an ice storm heading our way tomorrow.

Glad you're ok! Sitting by yourself on the side of the road while the traffic zooms by is not a pleasant situation to endure in this day and age of unsafe scenarios. Kudos to the Big Damn Hero (tm) for coming to save his damsel in distress!!!!!

We got new tires tonight as well...

You're going to get hit by the storm that somehow managed to dodge us. This morning they were calling for 3-5 inches and now that's down to 1 inch and some freezing rain, if we're lucky.

Stay safe tomorrow, partner!
