2 tribes go to war

Wonderful example these countries are setting for their children. I find it particularly staggering that in Northern Ireland it seems to be an almost exclusively religious conflict - mention is made in the article about the traditional political leanings of Irish Catholics and Protestants, but ultimately the word "Papist" is bandied around as a insult, not "Unionist". I thought that certainly, here in the 21st century, this kind of medieval attitude towards religious differences was OVER. I guess not.
What galls me most is how kids have been dragged into the conflict of the adults.... how do we ever expect as a species to get over our prejudices when we actively foster this divisive attitude in children? They'll just grow up and do the same shit the adults are doing now and nothing will ever get resolved.
Maybe I don't fully understand the political nuances in these countries but from here it looks an awful lot like rationalizing the same old story of "they're different from us, kill 'em".
