Third time's the charm - D. and I finally managed to get our flu shots by arranging appointments at our general practitioners'. In, out, real quick: it only took half an hour to go, get stabbed, stop by the library, and come home. It's the most efficient flu clinic I've seen this year :)

I picked up another in C.J. Cherryh's "Foreigner" series (thanks [livejournal.com profile] jlsjlsjls, [livejournal.com profile] hadesgirl and [livejournal.com profile] semmie17 for spurring my curiosity - does it matter if I read them in the wrong order?) and the latest Kage Baker. I also picked up Susie Bright's "State of the Sexual Union" as I figure I enjoy her blog so well, I might want to read some of her "dead tree" work too.

I know I have some writing (and sewing) I want to get to today, but I'm going to spend a few hours reading, whittling down the stack and having fun doing it :)

I'd say that reading "Foreigner" in order is essential ... the gradual buildup of the plot/politic shifts/social situation/relationships/history is quite complex, and it simply won't make sense if it's read out of order ... as in Babylon 5, tiny events are the seeds of/clues to greater ones later on. Plus, by reading in order, you're learning to "be" atevi as you go ... out of order you'll be trying to grasp nuances without having the foundations they rest on.

That being the case, can you send me a the correct order? I picked up "Percursor" because an Amazon list labeled it as "second"; now I'm thinking it meant "second trilogy" or some such. Even her website isn't that clear.

Thanks in advance!

No problem (and you're right, "Precursor" is the first volume of the second Foreigner trilogy).

The order of the Foreigner series, so far, is:

Foreigner
Invader
Inheritor
Precursor
Defender
Explorer
Destroyer

This is D. with your reading list tip of the day. A good resource for author bibliographies and book orders is this joint:

http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/ (http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/)

It specializes in SciFi/Fantasy where reading order can be all important. But you can find many popular authors listed. Bookmark it today and be hip!

Yes, most definitely read them in order! I'm rereading it myself.
