Had a nightmare last night. Well, less of a nightmare and more of a creepy-crawly dream.

At some point I developed a pimple between my collarbones, and out of that pimple came a caviar-sized egg. I put it in a windowsill and forgot about it, and a tiny black spider hatched out of it.

I tried to kill it, first by crushing it and then with Raid, but neither worked - if anything, the bug spray made it swell up and it was still resolutely Not Dead. Finally I locked it in a bottle with a stopper and went to work.

And the thing followed me! I kept finding it in my clothes or books and I was freaking out because I thought it might bite me or someone else. I enlisted my family and the entire office to help me kill the thing. It kept either hiding or regenerating. I woke up just as I'd gassed it again (swelled up to size of a healthy mantis), shoved it into a matchbox and was going to put it down the garbage disposal.

I can think of many ways this could work symbolically, none particularly flattering - I've let something ugly and scary out in the world and despite mine and others' efforts it refuses to die.

So, happy Mondays y'all - hell of a way to start the week...

The president of the United States turned into a spider? What a disgrace for all spiders all over the World! (Still I insist, spiders are very honest creatures.)

The U.S. Prez may be scary and disgusting, but if spiders are as honest as you say they are there's NO WAY Bush is a spider!
