Sinus watch: I think I have allergies. Anyone else out there suffering?

Gas watch: As of yesterday regular was up to $3.75/gallon. I've decided to watch with interest but not get upset re: gas prices - after all, some European countries have been ponying up the equivalent of $8/gallon for years - maybe the market is finally righting itself :P

Of course, it's easy for me to say that - I have a small car and it's not winter yet. I shudder to see the heating bills if this keeps up :/

Yeah, and I think in my case ti is persons going out for a smoke and coming in again spreading them tiny particles around. There is definitly a pattern to it.

My allergies have been going crazy, and so has my son's. Runny nose, post-nasal drip, sneezing, etc. It's been fun. :p

*raises right hand* sinus problems here. I hadn't thought about the outdoors as a problem. I'll start examining that. I do know I'm dealing w/ my kitty cat and food related sinus problems right now. I'm actually almost winning at this moment.

As for the gas thing. It is now officially cheaper for me to metro--even at rush hour--to Fairfax than to drive. My nice, big, expensive backpack (w/ computer carrying insert) is definitely earning its keep. If we top $6/gallon I'll have to consider walking/busing/bicycling to school, however, 'cause suddenly the bus is cheaper than the car at that point.

And, I'm shuddering over my heating bills as well. I guess it's time to stock up on nice, heavy wool socks and sweaters.

I live on Loratadine (antihistamine) and bought it in bulk when I was in Ohio. For me, one of the happiest days of the year is the night of the first frost -- no more bugs, no more allergies!

I'm sorry to hear people are suffering, but a bit relieved to know I'm not the only one noticing more allergy activity lately. I had been wondering if my accidental allergy cure #2 was starting to fail me, but I think I just need to adjust the dose a bit, or fall back on accidental #1 for a little while.

Sadly, the market is not righting itself. In Europe, a lot of those high petrol prices are funding cleanup of the damage done by burning the fuel. Here, the high prices are going into Bush's cronies' pockets.

What [livejournal.com profile] semmie17 said about loratadine (I think it's the generic version of Claritin?) - it manages the sneezing and itching without knocking you out, very unobtrusive.

Can you even bike to campus from where you live? It's not far but the road is hardly designed for bike use, is it?

Yes indeed :) I take it every couple of days so I won't get TOO used to it and have it stop working. I find it helps my eyes particularly.

I admit I don't know much about the economics of gas prices, though I have very little problem believing that Bush's oil friends are grabbing the profits for themselves :( Where can I read more on this?

I do loratadine regularly. Nice stuff!!!

As for biking to campus, there is actually a road parallel to Kennilworth that is bikeable, and then a path partway to campus from the bottom of that to the metro station. At the metro station, you go under their tunnel and through a nice residential neighborhood. And, voila, in 3/4 of a mile, campus. Not ideal, but not nearly as ridiculous as the totally unbikeable main road.

Funny you should say that -- it's the eyes that bother me the most, too, and Loratadine is the bestestestest for that! I don't mind a runny nose, but I hate it when my eyes itch and burn.
Temps are already starting to drop here in SD; we're waking with them in the '50's, thank goodness!
