I did go out rapier fencing on Sunday.

I've been doing the weight exercises the coach recommended, and while my arm was certainly tired at the end of 3 hours, it didn't feel like it was falling out of its socket, so I'd say that's an improvement! I was also better able to control the point and actually scored a touch or two. Go me!

Yesterday - lower body workout (link somewhere in last week's archives - no time to look it up now) with slightly lighter weights so I'll be able to walk this week :P Also rows, using the footstool as a bench - these hurt some but I'm not suffering too much this morning.

Got a busy day/week ahead - picking up car this evening (yay!), must get books for class and clean house a bit. Pictures of latest sewing projects forthcoming at some nebulous future time.

[livejournal.com profile] skill_grl told me that a large phone book sometimes works well as a "step" for the calf exercises. Haven't tried it, but there you are :)

You guys must have sturdier phone books than we do. :p I thought "Hey, yeah, brilliant!" and just tried it; unfortunately I could feel the (obviously very flimsy) spine shifting/skewing sideways under me, which was quite unsettling (and using the page edge was even worse), so guess the investing-in-something-stable plan is still on the to-do list. Damn ... and here I was, all excited at this practical and cheap solution. :-(

I could suggest a hardcover version of a large book like, say, the Oxford English Dictionary, but I think that would be crossing over into book abuse, no?

With an Oxford, yes it WOULD be book abuse. My big dictionary at home is a bargain bin Webster's, which is completely abuse-worthy, but I don't trust its spine either. I'm sure I'll find a bargain at Liquidation World or Real Canadian Superstore. :-)
