Campaign for Real Beauty
Jun. 20th, 2005 09:54 pmAnother 2 h. of involving homework; going to try and have a relatively early tonight.
Found this over at Pam's House Blend: The Campaign for Real Beauty. I saw Dove's commercial for the campaign a week or so ago and was impressed - real women, with scars and bulges and other wonderful imperfections :) There's a picture of the women here - tiny, but you can tell they aren't stick figures.
It's also worth checking out the study (pdf) Dove commissioned. Yes, by paying for the study they are trying to make a point, but a glance through and IMHO it looks like they interviewed actual people and didn't pull numbers out of their butts: Pam has some of the numbers.
While I'm all for women of all ages, shapes, and sizes being happy with their looks, I sometimes wish I didn't care about my own appearance quite so much. Or, at any rate, I don't want to be in my fifties and using every snake oil product, every cosmetic surgery etc. to try and recapture a youth that ultimately evades all of us. There are so many better ways to spend my time.
