academic scare

Got a letter from school today saying they'd canceled my class space due to non-payment of tuition. Apparently my check got lost in the mail.
After the requisite 5 minutes of freakout and progressively vile cursing, I got my head together and logged in to re-register. The section had filled up, but luckily another had opened up. I paid online so as not to deal with fishy postal service again.
So all is (luckily) well, but that really pissed me off! I just hate it when I think I've got everything lined up immaculately and up and then something beyond my control craps on me like that :P It regrettably further reinforces my conviction that "if you want it done right, do it yourself" - if the online registration flakes I'm going to drive the check to the reg. office myself, by doG!
The day was recuped somewhat by 1) D.'s tasty tuna fish salad. I find that tuna salad on Ritz crackers is a perfect pre-fencing food: high protein to fuel muscles but light enough so that I don't feel stuffed going onto the strip. Dan makes it with just enough pickle and dill that it's wonderfully aromatic too :) 2) Also my friend C. has been excessively generous with a belated birthday gift of What Clothes Reveal (which was too generous of her) - if you're into lush fabrics, elaborate embroidery and revealing and informative historical costume analysis, it's scrumpdillyicious! She also sent made-to-order Star Wars-themed M&Ms with little phrases stamped on them - "Help me Obi-Wan" indeed - help stop me from eating all of them at once! Note: I don't think these are the fabled dark chocolate M&Ms. If they are, they don't taste noticeably different from the milk chocolate. But hey, I ain't gonna look a gift M&M in the mouth :P

Date: 2005-05-13 12:43 am (UTC)Tuna with pickle ... HEAVENLY!!!!! (ever tried adding a bit of grated cheese, then sticking your tuna-laden crackers under the broiler for a few moments? YUM!!!!)
The book DOES look scrumptious ... I can hear you purring from way up here. And a book accompanied by chocolate ... scrumptious cubed! :-)

Date: 2005-05-13 01:50 am (UTC)As for Saturday, I might be available for coffee or something. . . but I'm not sure. Might move the wax scene we had planned to one of our homes instead . . . or, I might spend some more time w/ my boy.
