There is no such thing, but there's an LJ discussion about the woeful lack of marketing to the non-girly-girl consumer who, dammit, has periods too! (courtesy [livejournal.com profile] misia).

If I am ostepathically bullied into re-joining the "once a month" club, I'd be SO all over "Blackbeard the Pirate's Rugged Tampons! Fer pluggin' th' bloody hole afor' th' sharks smell ye!" No more of the frilly pink shit!

LOL!!!!! I don't blame her (or you) ... all that soft focus, pink, ruffly stuff is quite offputting (I like pink, but I like my pink bright and powerful, not soft and fluffy). And now you've given me a charming mental piccie of Blackbeard tying tampons into his beard and setting fire to 'em to terrorize the enemy. :D How 'bout

I use a Keeper ... definitely non-froufrou, since it's a rather ugly brown colour and the name makes me think of the late 70s trend of bad novels about secret guardians of the gates of hell/hell-like dimensions (I'm pretty sure that there WAS one called "The Keeper" ... I definitely remember "The Sentinel") ... wow, what a great visual commercial THAT would make ... flames, screams, demons. I'd want to run out and buy a spare. :P

The Keeper does strike me as being more environmentally friendly/less fussy than other options. Wish I'd known about it when I was a kid :)

I certainly recommend it ... if you want to know more about it, do ask.

Its major problem for me is that if you use it, you need to have a sink within arm's reach while you're on the toilet.

I work in an airport. Public washrooms and the Keeper just do not mix. :->

Ah - I've wondered about those for some time. Do they work well?

I'm quite pleased with mine. Takes a little practice to master the technique for insertion and removal, but I can't even tell it's there once it's in (my biggest danger is forgetting that I'm having my period and neglecting to empty the thing once in a while ***grin***). Take the 12-hour claim with a grain of salt ... timing will vary depending on your flow. However you should get more mileage out of it than you do a tampon; the second 24 hours of my period is affectionately nicknamed "Run For the Hills! The Dam Has Burst!" ... I can kill an ultrasuperabsorbant tampon in about 1.5-2 hours. With the cup, I can go 5-6 hours without having to worry. Once I'm past that, then yes, the 12-hour thing holds true.

I also don't use it overnight during heavy flow ... the shifting that happens during sleep can (and did) break the seal and it'll leak. But, again, that varies from individual to individual ... the instructions that come with it recommend playing around with timing, etc., to see what works best for you.

One other thing I've noticed (I've only been using this since Christmas) is that my periods have noticeably shortened; traces used to linger on for 6-7 days ... now it's suddenly over in 4-5 days. BONUS!!!! :-))))

Hmmmm. Verrrrry interesting. I'll have to read up on that. Wow! 4-5 days is great.

I think it has something to do with the way a cup holds you open ... must enhance the drainage or something (such impressive, elegant wording, no? ***GRIN***)

The ever-handy, online Museum of Menstruation has links to the sites of the major cup brands here (links are in the third paragraph).

Thanks for the links - I'm definitely going to consider the Keeper or similar if I have to change my BC.
