belated fencing post

I DID get out to go fencing on Sunday - first time I've done rapier in ~ 4-6 months! Damn, how I missed those sexy 42" blades!
The usual rapier coach teaches using the techniques of Fabris; this week we used Capo Fero instead, which is much easier on the back (compare the images at the links - Fabris requires an extremely "bent over" on guard stance, which is extremely uncomfortable for any length of time).
There was a new, extremely enthusiastic rapier-fencer (rapierest?), and a visiting fencer from another group who demonstrated some Spanish-style techniques - fencing in the round, and a LOT more slashing/slicing. Italian is almost mathematical in its precision. I see the technical merits of both - but slashing is more fun ;)
I'm hoping to find a rapier - or at least, something with the right weight/balance to drill with - in a few weeks. An acquaintance of mine used to vend fantasy style blades but says she has a few "combat ready" pieces she's willing to let go cheap. Here's hoping...
