Just made a contribution to the tsunami relief effort. It wasn't much, but I had to do something - the enormity of it all is overwhelming :(

I went to charityguide.org to find out what relief organizations were recommended; I went with Oxfam, but I'm sure giving anywhere is appreciated.

I gave a little to Mercy Corps and a little to the IFRC (who seem to have the option to earmark for tsunami victims now, which they didn't when I first looked so I donated to the general disaster relief emergency fund). CNN also has a list of organizations that are accepting donations.

My contribution went to the Mennonite Central Committee, chosen simply because I know they'll extract the least amount of administration and the maximum amount of aid from each dollar.

...least amount of administration and the maximum amount of aid...

Yep, that's why I checked Charity Guide first - I wanted to get as much bang for my meager buck as possible. Oxfam rated "A" for division of funds :)

I'm going to be giving money to Oxfam America and/or Doctors without Borders. I hate the Red Cross -- they're way too political and there are way too many questions about how they allocate their money for me to feel comfortable in supporting them.

Drs. Without Borders was another choice, but they must be getting a lot of traffic - I tried to access their site in two different browsers and timed out on both!
