At first I thought it was just that the vinyl pants were too hot, or that my jeans had somehow escaped into the dryer without my noticing. This week, after finally having to loosen my belt a notch, I faced up to it: I've gained weight.

Not so much that nothing fits, but enough to be uncomfortable. I know how it happened - overeating (new recipes taste good), a few too many trips to the candy machine at work. But I'm going to get rid of it. Here's how:

  • Eat until I'm full, and absolutely no more. If there are enough leftovers for seconds, they go in the fridge. If there isn't enough to save, it goes straight down the garbage disposal to avoid the "just one more bite" temptation.
  • No more candy machine, period. Ditto free candy at jury duty.
  • Cut back on the white pita bread, even though it goes well with so many things.
  • Try to exercise at least 4 days a week instead of the half-hearted 2 that have been my recent habit.
  • Walks during lunch hour, unless it's absolutely freezing/rain pouring in sheets.
  • Make lunch instead of dinner the "big meal" of the day when possible - weekends, definitely.

Yes, I know, it's really fsking optimistic to make this decision the week before Thanksgiving, but it can be done - most of this isn't "festive" eating, it's everyday overdoing it. I'm tough, I've done it before, I can do it!

Hey - ok! I'm on the bandwagon with you, partner!! I'm ready to drop my extra pounds too. I'll do like you do - except the exercise, due to the knee problem. I'll have to be a little stricter on the food due to the lack of being able to jump start my metabolism with exercising but I'll give it a shot too. No more doritoes from the machine at work. No more McNuggets at lunch. Less wasteful carbs and more useful protein.

We'll have to check in with each other periodically to monitor our progress too!

Hurrah! We shall conquer the carbs! Seriously, I know this will be hard with all of the holiday goodies around, but I really have gotten slack on a lot of things. I think being stressed out has also encouraged a "nervous noshing" habit that I need to break.

You might be able to exercise a bit - my dietician fencing buddy tells me that even light lifting of freeweights - or hell, soup cans - can help with weight loss.

Of course, I always lift my freeweights while watching Alton Brown - probably not the best strategy there...:P

Yeah. Bad carbs. Booooooooooo!!!!!

Stressed out = food. Yep. Me too.

As for the exercise, you're right. I can use my upper body - and I do have weights of varying size so that is definitely a possibility.

From the waist up I'm fine, so I'll use the weights for sure.

Rah rah rah!!
